Aftermath

Halloween Aftermath in the Royal Steamline galley
Here’s hoping that houses were haunted, cellars were spooky, and a good Halloween night was had by all!
Of course, it’s no surprise that around the Royal Steamline studios…

Not a “wedding” as we usually speak of, but a wonderful match nonetheless.
Joyeux anniversaire, M. Verne.

We’ve been entertaining an old friend this week — and have been having a fun time in our gray city. Had a chance to sample some new (and some just new to us) bars and restaurants…and not really a dead beat among them: Bunk Bar, St. Jack, Tasty n Sons, Beaker & Flask. We ate and drank our way through these murky PDX January days!

(Oh, and since our compatriot is a musician/programmer from Germany en route to the NAMM conference, we also spent several late nights in digital lockdown, creating strange noises with his laptops and tablets, and our assortment of toys that includes an SK-1, SHS-10 and Synsonics drum machine. Hence the Goldfrapp reference in the title!)
Anyway, now it’s back to the Steamcave (via the Steampoles, natch!) to finish a passel of new designs!
Also, we’ve added a few things to the Sale sections. Be sure to check out the Vintage, Steampunk, Retro and Gothic Sale Sections to see the latest!
Have a good week, everybody!
Happy New Year everybody! We hope you’re celebrating with someone special!

Happy New Year from Royal Steamline!
Thanks to all of you who made Royal Steamline a part of your weddings in 2010! It was an honor and a pleasure.
And here’s to 2011! Cheers!
This might seem a bit random, but we wanted to clear up some misunderstandings some might have about paying for your Royal Steamline invitations.
First, while we do prefer payment via PayPal because of the processing speed, you’re also welcome to pay via check.
Second, you don’t have to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal. You can use your credit card to pay without having to set up an account and jump through a lot of hoops.

It was Aerin’s birthday last night and I just wanted to share a few shots of a new favorite cocktail we discovered at Spints:
They call it an “Old Towne Cafe,” but due to the mindbending combination of absinthe and coffee, we thought “1894 Loko” was a much better fit!
Happy Birthday, Aerin! I love you!
It will come as little surprise that we’re fast approaching our favorite time of the year here at Steamline Studios. So, in celebration of Halloween, we’d like to spotlight another woman that we feel doesn’t get her due when devotees recount their favorite horror stars of yesteryear. (You might recall that we tend to avoid the threadbare appellation “scream queen” as we feel it doesn’t do justice to many of the actresses that are saddled with that dubious honor.)
Our focus today is Carol Ohmart. Certainly not as well known as many of the classic Universal players or Hammer’s deep roster of European beauties, Ms. Ohmart nevertheless is owed our attention for at least two projects she helped to make noteworthy and memorable: Spider Baby and that camptastic William Castle spookshow, House on Haunted Hill:

Let’s focus on House. It takes a special actress to play a lead role opposite of Vincent Price — and in their bedroom scenes, especially, Ms. Ohmart entrances and beguiles. And when she makes her entrance to the “ghost party” that her diabolical husband has organized, she is a stunner in this gown:
In summary, do yourself a favor this holiday season: turn down the lights and watch (or re-watch) House on Haunted Hill for free on Hulu. And when you do so, be sure to note Ms. Ohmart’s lovely deep voice, her poise, and her slight smirk — all things that contributed to her being an icon of Classic Horror Glamour.
Just wanted to post a few images from our 24-hour anniversary fête. We kept it local, staying at the Hotel deLuxe and stopping by a few Willamette Valley wineries.

Our room at the deLuxe. Love that cart.

A beautiful view from the 8th floor of the deLuxe.

Enjoying a Clint Eastwood Manhattan in the Driftwood Room at the deLuxe.

I was impressed by the assortment of bitters.

A gorgeous day at the Sokol Blosser winery.

Taking a turn around the grounds at Stoller.
We can’t recommend the deLuxe enough and it was just the perfect early fall day to sneak down to the Valley. All in all, a wonderful time.
Our 48-hour Code Update Jamboree was a great success! The flagship (royalsteamline.com, natch) has never been as powerful or as clean “under the hood.” We’ve reopened the shop and are ready to help you with your unconventional wedding invitation needs!
And we must thank Sarah Neuber and her team at SN WebDesign & Development. She has really gone above the call of duty to help us with our intensive adaptation of her code. Vielen Dank!
We just heard from a bride that she and her betrothed will be getting elements of a Royal Steamline invitation design incorporated into matching tattoos for their wedding!
Wow, soon we’ll be giving Ruedi a run for the money!
All kidding aside, we think this is amazing and we are very flattered to be included in the wedding in such a lasting way.
{A related aside: we think we’ve decided on Atlas Tattoo for our next tattoo. It’s become a Royal Steamline tradition to be tattooed in each city we’ve lived in and, after checking off New York, LA and San Francisco, we’re finally getting around to Rip City!}
