Summer Comes to Laurel Canyon

After a weekend like the one we just had here in PDX, there’s no doubt that summer has arrived. We thought it seemed like the perfect time to re-introduce Laurel Canyon 1904:

It’s always been one of our warmest designs..but we thought it needed a bit of color adjustment. We replaced some of the yellows with more muted blues and purples, accentuating the watercolor approach. Oh, and new fonts, too! We feel that the new look maintains the quietly psychedelic tone of the original while using a more appealing palette. Perfect for an wedding in a breezy meadow or under a maple tree in June!

Presenting the Wireless Series!

Recently, we’ve been in the lab perfecting a suite of six invitations that we’ve dubbed the Wireless Series.

Based (very loosely) on early telegram designs, these invitations reflect a unique blend of styles and periods; Victorian corner pieces frame Edwardian accents while surrounding Bauhaus-era fonts. The Wireless Series suggests a lighthearted affair that still retains an air of glamour, civility and mystery.

All designs in the Wireless Series are larger than our standard invitations (5 x 8 inches vs. 5 x 7 inches), reflecting measurements more accurate of actual telegrams. Also, all Wireless Series invitations are printed on a tan, textured 80lb paper that is made of 100% recycled content. (Please note that the tan background of the images shown on this page is a simulation of the paper color and texture — but it’s darn close to the real thing.)

They’re available with all black ink, the names in color, or the names/message/accents in color. In the the example images, we’ve used a crimson color. We can replace the crimson with blue, green, purple or just about any other color you choose. (However, please note, that we cannot match colors exactly.)

We hope you like them!

Spring is the time for romance…

…so it seems a fitting time to introduce L’Hôtel Particulier:

Full of bright spring colors, the L’Hôtel Particulier line was inspired by a range of romantic ideas: Paris, Art Deco and, of course, Serge and Jane. Click on the image to see the reverses in more detail.

10/6 Goes Mad

As hinted at yesterday, we’re pleased to announce a new twist on our 10/6 invitation design…10/6 Mad Limited:

Getting Caught Up and Entwined

What a week: I had a milestone birthday (and was treated by the missus to some amazing–and sustainable–sushi), little Khan passed his Kinderpuppy 1 class with flying colors, and we introduced several new invitation designs.

First up is Entwined:

Inspired by World War II-era propaganda posters and Hitchcock’s espionage thrillers, Entwined has all the intrigue and romance of a Bogart/Bacall matinee.

And that’s just one of the new designs. Oh, and we’re going to have a special design announcement tomorrow in honor of a certain movie that’s premiering this weekend:

Stay tuned!

Mary Would Be Proud: Witching Hour Arrives

According to Wikipedia (which is always right, of course):

One of the earliest known uses of the exact phrasing “the witching hour” is from the 1831 edition of Frankenstein in the introduction by Mary Shelley: “Night waned upon this talk, and even the witching hour had gone by before we retired to rest.”

We’ll admit (somewhat shamefacedly) to not knowing this when we named one of our latest designs, Witching Hour.

We just felt that phrase summed up the feelings an ancient monument bathed in moonlight.

We’re happy to ring in this October season with the Witching Hour and look forward to bringing you more macabre designs throughout the month!

New RS Invitation Design: Tinkerer

“The tinkerer – always in their shoppe, studio or garage – grabs a odd handful of used gears and pinions to craft something beyond imagination…”

We’ve added several new designs recently – please do have a look!

New RS Invitation Design: The Portal

“The Portal” visually suggests a number of steampunk elements: a mysterious doorway into another dimension, a double-paned window on the Nautilus, the patina on aged brass gears. The timelessness of the design is further implied by the pledge faintly visible around the the portal itself: “Till Death Do Us Part.”

We’ve recently introduced a number of new invitation designs — please do have a look!

New Design: Vintagized Photo Card

I’ve been working on a new style of design for custom thank you cards for a newlywed couple. Our mission from the lovely Aline was to transform one of her wedding photos into a vintage-style card. Aging and coloring the photo was a blast and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting to work with.

Aline and Jason were married July 13, 2009 in Nice, France. Their photographer, Cedric Samson, captured the couple and the city perfectly. The landscapes, the couple and the photos were absolutely gorgeous. It was so difficult to choose just one photo for the thank you cards.

Here’s the final product getting the finishing touches at our printers now. Isn’t this photo simply stunning?
