Keep Fighting the Good Fight

Just a quick note about the Vera Wang wedding dresses that seem to be causing a mild sensation:

Being on the front lines of the fight to bring brides ever more wedding options, we here in the RS studio sometimes forget how narrow-minded some still remain on the issue of what’s “appropriate” for a wedding. As such, we scoffed when we saw Yahoo’s headline, “Vera Wang’s black wedding dresses: unique or creepy?” Surely, they were simply using sensationalism to generate clicks, eyeballs and ad revenue, right? Well, after skimming many of the comments left in regard to these beautiful gowns, we were reminded just how far we have yet to go.

For example, one commenter stated:

Just my opinion, but I don’t really see “wedding” in any of these dresses. Sure the dresses are in many popular silhouettes, typically seen as wedding gown, but light colors are generally what someone imagines as the color for a wedding dress. Therefore, these aren’t the the wedding dress category. Also just saying but the minimalistic make-up on the models doesn’t really help the vibe of the gowns. The gowns are so dark, and their faces look washed out, with only nude make-up the feel is kind of morbid, not happy like a wedding should be.

Sigh. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But let’s look at the final five words: “like a wedding should be.” It is our concerted opinion that you and your partner are the only ones who get to decide what your wedding should be. Everything else is noise.

If anything, reading comments such as the one above does nothing but redouble the efforts of the RS team. Hearing the voice of these would-be rulemakers stokes our creative fires and leads us to create more and more readymade designs in order to offer the widest range of options for your wedding invitations. And if, after reviewing our catalog, you choose to go with another company or to make your own original invitations, we hoist our glasses and toast you with all our hearts, because you chose what your wedding should be, and that’s the most important thing.
